Caneta Energy is one of a small number of energy consultants pre-qualified by Natural Resources Canada, Enbridge and Union Gas. We conduct energy simulation work and assist design teams to improve overall energy efficiency and reduce operating costs in new commercial, institutional and multi-residential buildings.

There are many benefits to performing energy modeling on your building:

  • Energy simulation provides an independent evaluation of the energy efficiency of your proposed new design
  • Energy simulation can provide you with the most cost effective design to meet your environmental goals
  • Energy simulation quantifies the operating savings over the life of the building
  • Energy simulation is needed to qualify for utility and government incentives (such as OPA's High Performance New Construction (HPNC) program) and for LEED certification
  • You can do the design right the first time instead of paying more to correct it later.

Energy modeling should be done early in the schematic design phase to ensure that efficiency goals are met with minimal complications or costs. A preliminary model is used at this stage to estimate savings. Caneta staff can provide feedback and recommend efficiency strategies to the design team for implementation into the design. We can also advise the team on any changes that occur during the design process.

Once the design is nearing tender stage, on receipt of drawings and specifications, Caneta will undertake the modeling using EE4, DOE or eQUEST and prepare a modeling report. This report describes our modeling approach and assumptions as can be used as part of the LEED application. We open an account with any agencies offering incentives on your behalf. Caneta will prepare the submission package and prepare forms for signature by the design team. We also send a copy of the energy results to utilities to allow any incentive payments to be processed.

For maximum benefit from energy modeling, it is important that the energy modeller get engaged early in the design process. A good time is when schematic drawings and mechanical and electrical system design concepts have been prepared.

Involve Caneta Energy in your next project.
