Caneta has completed a number of projects in the refrigeration field. Our principal clients for these services have been Ontario Hydro, Canadian Standards Association, ASHRAE, Union Gas, Enbridge Gas Distribution, Environment Canada and Natural Resources Canada.

The experience has involved investigating CFC and HCFC refrigerant phase-out implications and alternatives on behalf of Environment Canada. Technical and economic assessments of natural gas industrial refrigeration potential have been undertaken for Consumers Gas (Enbridge) and Union Gas Limited. A number of draft performance standards for refrigeration equipment(s) have been prepared for CSA committee deliberations chaired by Caneta staff over the past 15 years.

On behalf of NRCan, Caneta has investigated the potential for regulating the energy efficiency of various commercial refrigeration equipment types. We have conducted market and economic analysis for NRCan on icemakers, water coolers, supermarket display cases, and food service refrigeration equipment. In 2000, Caneta explored the commercial refrigeration industry’s reaction to both regulatory and market transformation options for these same products and provided recommendations to NRCan. More recently, Caneta has selected product from the market and arranged for delivery of units for performance testing at Bodycote. This was done for both ice-makers and commercial refrigeration units.
