Amendment 17 to the Energy Efficiency Regulations has now reached the pre-publication stage and comments will be collected until 11 June 2022. The following are covered in this amendment:

  • Canadian requirements for central air conditioners and heat pumps would be largely harmonized with incoming (2023) U.S. DOE regulations. Because of Canada’s colder climate, heat pump performance would be reported for Climate Region V instead of Region IV, and heat pump performance at the -15oC test point would be reported.
  • Minor changes have been made to the regulations for certain other energy consuming products. These changes address discrepancies between Canadian and US regulations that are intended to be consistent.

Caneta frequently reviews Canadian, North American and international efficiency regulations and building codes for client projects. We also conduct technical and market studies that inform proposed regulation and building code updates.
